Instructional Design and Technology Portfolio

Breanna Sabbatini
I design engaging and accessible learning experiences for adults. My passion lies in the development of learning that will benefit the learner by boosting knowledge, confidence, and improving the working lives of adults.

I am a creative "people person" who enjoys solving a good problem, with a strong work ethic. These qualities make me able to jump right into any situation comfortably.
Purpose

The purpose of this portfolio is to showcase my knowledge and application of instructional design and technology, including adult learning theories, design models, digital media, new tools and technology and my Capstone Project. My Capstone Project is a three week eLearning course that I am designing and developing end-to-end.
Upon completion of the Capstone Project, I will earn a MicroMasters in Instructional Design and Technology from The University of Maryland, Global Campus.

Why Instructional Design?
Instructional design was a natural direction for me to go in upon changing careers. I delight in being creative and making an impact on adult learning. I enjoy being part of the solution. Building learning while letting my attention to details flourish allows me to soar.
My Process
The instructional design process for me involves the use of ADDIE. This means I start with analysis of the problem. I work through information from a variety of sources including interviews, surveys, etc. and build my understanding of the current situation and the behavior(s) that need to be changed. In the design phase, realistic and targeted objectives are established to address specific needs. The subject matter expert (SME) is a crucial piece of my process and I work hard to respect the SME's time and knowledge. Storyboards are built and I meet with the team to discuss the plan and iterate as part of the process.

Once objectives, and instructional strategies are set, then I move on to the development phase where I focus on developing course materials and engaging activities for learning. Input from stakeholders and iteration is essential and then there is the implementation stage where I pilot the learning, refine it, and release it. Upon release I work to monitor and maintain the course. The final step - evaluation - requires careful assessment of course effectiveness, interpretation of evaluation results, and making improvements to instructional strategy and/or materials.
