Week 4: Educational Video

In week four, I created a video to teach a portion of my eLearning course. This video addresses the following objective:

The learner will transform a Kahoot! to support student learning concepts taught in the classroom.

Description of Learning:

My audience consists of educators for grades three through five. Their business is to engage their students and reinforce learning. Throughout my eLearning course, learners are working towards using two different types of websites to engage their own students as they reinforce learning.

Kahoot! is a game-based learning tool that delivers and presents questions to students. It is set up as a game that students can play either individually on their own devices or in groups. Instructors provide students with multiple-choice questions, which are projected on a classroom screen. Kahoots can be created from scratch or educators can make a copy of one from the vast library on the website and edit it to fit the needs of the learners.

At this point in my course learners have already been introduced to the website Kahoot! and have set up a login. They will watch this video to gain a visual understanding of how to locate a Kahoot!, duplicate it and make changes to it. This knowledge is essential for learners to complete the task that follows the video (though the task is not included with the video) and meet learning objective number one.

Objective tied to my goal:

The learner will transform a Kahoot! to support student learning concepts taught in the classroom.

Key Takeaways:

In order to showcase additional skills, this week I used Powerpoint to create a slide presentation, then recorded a voiceover. Next, I used Clipchamp to edit the video and audio elements. I mostly utilized this tool to cut out unnecessary noise or awkward pauses. This improved my overall video and audio quality greatly. I believe that if I had uploaded the Powerpoint to Articulate and done the voiceover there it would have been of better quality because I believe it to be a superior tool (over Clipchamp), especially in editing. The remainder of the experience was important, as I had never uploaded a video to YouTube before. I quite enjoyed editing the captions to make sure they were grammatically correct.
