This week I was tasked with designing a logo to apply to some aspect of my eLearning course. Then I was to apply that logo to a page in my course. I chose to create a "Meet Your Instructor" announcement page that will be inserted near the beginning of my course, Technology Resources for Educators.

Logo and Photograph Changes

Original

Accessible Technology_0.png

Alt Text: Mint green background, White Earth with "Whole Earth Environment Protection" written underneath.

Accessible Technology_2.png

Alt Text: Picture of woman. Cluttered classroom background: flag, globe, calendar.

New

Accessible TechnologyComp.png

Alt Text: Black background with green Earth. "Accessible Technology" in white lettering centered above blue ripples.

New Pic.jpg

Alt Text: Picture of woman, gray background, lighter in center and darker towards edges.

In the first example, the logo, I used a logo template from Adobe Express. I changed the background color and the text colors to black and white respectively. After centering the text and moving the earth graphic up, I wanted to show how the idea can transcend. This is where the ripples came in. I added the ripples graphic and changed it from white to blue to help the colors come alive.

In the second example, the picture, I used Fotor media editing software to create the changes.  First I cropped the image, removed the background and found a more suitable one from the choices available in Fotor. Then I adjusted the levels of brightness, saturation, amongst others to make the picture "pop ."

Summary

The scenario includes the learners and an introduction to the course and instructor. This Meet Your Instructor announcement is necessary for learning and supports the objective: Learners will understand how to use Kahoot! and Edpuzzle in their individual classrooms.

The announcement provides a glimpse into the course. It is imperative for learners to identify who the instructor is and to have a face to go along with the name. This allows the learners to connect with the instructor, creates buy-in and begins the trust-building process.  Learners expect to see an introductory page in their courses and may feel alienated without some type of connection to the instructor. The result would be a loss of interest and a poor learning experience.

To meet digital design and accessibility standards, my checklist includes a proper title, headings, and subtitles. It is written concisely, reducing cognitive overload and encouraging continuation to the next slide. Captions and text-to-speech are available, and contrasting colors allow the text to stand out. Repetition is utilized in subheadings, rectangles around, and decorative stars before subheadings. Items are intentionally aligned with their grouping sending a message of unity. Other items are spaced apart to establish their difference.

The purpose of my logo is to express support of and need for worldwide accessible technology and the ripples it will cause that impact us all. It symbolizes the effects of each change that is made to support accessibility for all. I used a logo template from Adobe Express. I changed the background and text colors to black and white respectively. After centering the text  and repositioning the earth graphic, I wanted to show how the idea can transcend, which is why I included ripples. I changed them from white to blue to help the colors come alive.

In the picture example, I used Fotor media editing software. I cropped the image, removed the background and found a suitable replacement in Fotor. Then I adjusted the various levels of brightness, saturation, etc., to make the picture "pop."
